Sharpe gets private tour of IRS Demolition's South Gate facility
Since the inception of Sharpe Interior Systems, Inc., our team has worked closely with IRS Demo. Together, we’ve collaborated on numerous projects across Southern California. For over four decades, we’ve witnessed and contributed to the evolution of the construction industry, always with an open mind toward learning, sharing knowledge, and investing in the future. We are grateful for the invaluable partnership, friendship and camaraderie we’ve built over the years.
On Tuesday, September 17th, Sharpe Interior Systems, Inc. toured IRS Demo’s14-acre South Gate facility. Throughout the tour, we gained valuable insights into the diverse materials commonly encountered in tenant improvement projects and the critical sorting and separation processes implemented by IRS Demo. We learned that the IRS Demo team goes the extra mile to divert these materials from landfills, educating us on the environmental impact of improper disposal while emphasizing their commitment to material reuse opportunities.
DID YOU KNOW:
- In the United States, construction and demolition debris makes up nearly 50% of all solid waste being sent to landfills
- When demolishing a standard 22,000 square-foot tenant space, nearly 24 tons of gypsum drywall are removed
- Unless it is specifically targeted for recycling during the demolition phase of a project, gypsum ends up in landfills
- When placed in a landfill, four pounds of gypsum can produce one pound of Hydrogen Sulfide gas, which is highly toxic
- When properly recovered, gypsum can be used as a beneficial soil amendment without producing the harmful chemical compound Hydrogen Sulfide
- Up to 30% of all new materials delivered to a construction site can end up as construction waste
