A Successful Learning Experience!

We wanted to take a moment to recap our recent "Total Station 101" class, which provided an excellent opportunity for our Foremen to gain hands-on experience with this invaluable tool. The session was a success, and we’d like to thank everyone who participated and contributed to making it an informative and engaging learning experience.

A special thank you goes to Jeff Filadelfia, Ben Powers, Gus Felix, Kyle Chavis, Tim Rodriguez, Edgar Lepe and everyone involved in leading the class. Their expertise and insights were crucial in helping the team better understand the setup, operation, and application of Total Station.

What We Covered:

·  Total Station Setup: We began by learning how to properly set up Total Station, using the tablet interface and Hilti program to create control and layout points. The hands-on training allowed participants to station the tool and lay out points accurately on the floor.

·  Real-world Applications: Gus shared how Total Station has become an essential tool on job sites, including layout of deck inserts, radius walls, soffits, and even identifying framing members for complex projects like the Lucas Museum. Kyle highlighted how the tool has transformed his ability to accurately build structures such as ceilings, walls, and panels, especially when dealing with complex dimensions and arcs.

·  Procore Integration: We discussed how Procore enhances our efficiency on our job sites. Tim emphasized how the app allows for seamless access to drawings, specifications, submittals, and even virtual models, helping avoid the time-consuming task of updating physical plans and reducing the risk of errors.

Total Station has greatly improved accuracy and speed in layout, especially when dealing with complex or curved walls, which would have been challenging using traditional methods. It also helps resolve issues like missing or clashing dimensions quickly, minimizing the need for RFIs. Hands-on practice allowed everyone to understand the importance of accurate stationing and layout. With continued practice, we’re confident that all participants will be able to use the tool independently on their own job sites.

We are excited to continue this learning journey, possibly with an upcoming "Total Station 102" class. We also discussed incorporating a bit of friendly competition in future sessions, with teams racing to station and layout their project—helping us all get even more familiar with the tool in a fun, engaging way!  Thank you again to everyone for your participation and to our instructors for sharing their valuable knowledge. We look forward to the next class and continuing to build on the skills learned!
