KNOWLEDGE IS KEY.
Two of our very own receive
Apprentice of the Year
Every year, the International Union of Painters and Allied Trades, District Council 36 (IUPAT), nominates one Drywall Finishing Apprentice to receive the “Apprentice of the Year” Award. This years’ graduation ceremony was held on January 10, 2020, where two of Sharpe’s very own were recognized: Ivan Gonzalez was named “Apprentice of the Year” and Jose Lopez was named “Runner Up”. According to IUPAT, it is never easy to select the apprentice of the year as it is always a tight race, and this year was no different. Ivan Gonzalez and Jose Lopez were leading among all drywall finishing graduates. During their apprenticeship, they both demonstrated advance skills, the ability to learn their trade quickly and effectively, and were always willing to help others, all while consistently performing at their best.
Before joining Sharpe Interior Systems, Inc., Ivan worked as an OCTA Driver, and a non-union taper. He joined Sharpe in January of 2016, starting on the WeWork DTLA project. Since then, he has worked on Northrop Grumman, Lakewood High School, Forte and Deviant Art. He is currently working on Netflix, which continues to be challenging due to the build demands and production pace.
Jose was working as a warehouse forklift driver prior to joining Sharpe Interior Systems, Inc. He started with us in May of 2016 on the WeWork Irvine project, and has since worked on Circa, Oceanwide, Paradigm Talent Agency, ARUP, Torrance Memorial, and Logix. He is currently working on the Manatt Phelps & Phillips project and is involved in the company mentorship program.
Sharpe Interior Systems, Inc. Superintendent, Samuel Arellano, received a “Certificate of Recognition” Award on behalf of the company for our commitment in advancing the drywall finishing industry and for mentoring the 2019 Apprentice of the Year. Sharpe Interior Systems, Inc. is pleased to be producing such highly qualified new Journeyman to our trade. We look forward to continuing our efforts in training and mentoring new apprentices coming into the drywall finishing industry.
Congratulations to Ivan and Jose for your extraordinary effort, leadership and representation of our company.
